Julia Panke Makela, PhD, CCC

Julia Panke Makela, Ph.D., CCC, is the Senior Director of LAS Career Services at the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Julia brings more than 20 years of experience in career development, education, research, and evaluation to her work. She has a passion for inspiring and empowering individuals in their education and career pursuits.

Julia has served NCDA as a member of the Ethics Committee (2005-present; Chair 2009–2012) and the Publications Development Council (2012 – 2020), as well as contributing to a variety of association publications. She is the lead author of NCDA’s program assessment monograph, Learning outcomes assessment step-by-step: Enhancing evidence-based practice in career services (2012), and the ethics case study monographs, A Case Study Approach to Ethics in Career Development (2009, 2017). Her contributions can also be found in Career Development Quarterly, Career Convergence, and Career Developments Magazine.

Julia earned a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a M.S. in counseling from Florida State University, and a B.S. in computer science from Cornell University. In 2019, Julia was recognized as a NCDA Fellow.
